Meet our Executive Board (2016-2017)
Jessica Phan - Co-President
I am a senior born and raised in Chicago, with a major in Biology and a minor in Finance. I was always interested in working with my hands, and especially enjoy playing the piano and building Gundam model kits. I always found dentistry interesting, since it allowed me to use my creative skills and do hands-on work to help the community. I am currently shadowing at a dental office, while also working as a personal assistant at a financial services firm. My shadowing experience has shown me how dentistry involves a wide breadth of tasks, making it an interesting career that is constantly changing. In addition to PDA, I am also a part of other student orgs at Loyola such as Kapwa, VASA, COPAA, and NSCS. My involvement in these different campus organizations have shown me the importance of building strong relationships with those around me. If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask -- I am always glad to help in any way that I can.
Mike Marino - Co-President
Hi! I am a junior studying Biology at Loyola and I am from Chagrin Falls, OH. I am very fortunate to have two dentists as parents and it is thanks to them that I want to study dentistry! I spent a lot of time after school at their office and they helped show me the amazing ways dentistry can help people. While at Loyola I have become involved with the National Society of Collegiate Scholars as well as the St. Thomas of Canterbury Soup Kitchen that is sponsored by Loyola’s CSA program! These extracurriculars along with Pre-Dental Association have helped me see the importance of finding a good balance between work and giving back to my community! In addition, PDA has greatly increased my knowledge of dentistry and given me the necessary tools and information to one day craft a successful application for dental school. As Co-President, my goal is to share all the information and experiences I have gathered over these years at Loyola so that other members of PDA can feel confident with choosing dentistry as the field they wish to study. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns, and I hope you have a great semester!
Larry Geist - Secretary
I am a senior from Detroit Michigan and am studying History with a minor in Chinese and International Studies. My interest in dentistry initially came from my parents, who are both dentists. Being around them and their work made me look more seriously into what they do, and I've been involved ever since. I currently intern at a dental school, and it has taught me so much about the field I wish to work in. In addition to PDA, I am involved in the Chinese Student Association and the History Honors Society student orgs. This has allowed me to form connections and relationships with many people on campus. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have, I'm always happy to help out!
Gabie Georgieva - Director of Marketing
I am a senior here at Loyola majoring in Biology. I am from Arlington Heights, IL but I am currently living near campus. Pre-Dental Association has provided me with guidance and an opportunity to strengthen my decision to pursue Dentistry. This organization helps students by bringing in speakers, organizing a DAT prep class, and having biweekly general body meetings that are full of information to guide undergraduate students in their preparation for following their ambitions of becoming a dentist. PDA has helped me so much that I wanted to give back and help others by being part of executive board. I am currently Director of Marketing which entitles me to promote our organization to the university and bring in people that are interested in Dentistry. Along with Pre-Dental Club, I have also been involved in Best Buddies and Alpha Sigma Alpha. I have been shadowing my dentist which has only strengthened by decision in being part of this field. I appreciate everything that I have learned from PDA and hope to contribute more to the organization this year.
Brian Currie - Director of Membership
I am a senior from Hoffman Estates, Illinois and I am currently studying molecular biology with a minor in Spanish. My interest in dentistry stems from my own experiences with teeth and my understanding of how important they are to one’s overall health and well-being. Shadowing has opened my eyes to the multi-faceted dimensions of dentistry and has made me truly realize all the different opportunities/areas of specialty there are in the field of dentistry. In addition to pre-dental association, I am also involved in NSCS and the Chicago Sociological Association. Say hello when you see me on campus and feel free to ask me any questions you might have!
Jake Postula - Director of External Communications
Hi! I am a senior at Loyola currently studying Biology with a minor in Business Administration. I grew up in Lasalle, IL, a smaller rural town before heading to Chicago for school. I have been set on dentistry since I first decided on going into science. The dextrous work and attention to detail it requires is what draws me to this field. As director of external communication I am responsible for getting in contact and scheduling events that our club does as a group. I am open to ideas and encourage speaking up of group members to work in making this club a very useful tool for all of us aiming to enter the competitive field of dentistry. In addition to the Pre-dental club, I work for Campus Recreation as Intramural Supervisor and can be found in the gym or on-campus often. I look forward to a successful year and hope to connect with all group members throughout the year.
Kenan Tufo - Treasurer
I am a senior from Mt. Prospect. I am studying biology. My interest in dental medicine stems from my original interest in the medical field. In college I realized that this was the career path for me. I have worked and volunteered as a dental assistant, and I am very interested in new technologies in the dental field. On campus I am also part of the Muslim Student Association, and in the past I have worked in the Writing Center. PDA has been extremely helpful for me because of the insight offered from our previous E-Boards. Also, the speakers that come to some of the meetings are a big help in answering questions about dentistry and dental school. If you have any questions about PDA or dentistry in general feel free to contact me. I have finished my applications, taken the DAT, and can be of assistance if you have any questions regarding those things.
